A 3-day summer camp was recently held as part of a successful internship lasting several months to provide pupils with guidance on their studies.

Together with the long-standing cooperation partner of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science - DB Netz AG - this was the first time that such a student internship was carried out in so-called "blended learning".

Excursions, e.g. to the new Dresden-Prague line in the Elbe valley, alternated with the development of knowledge and the transfer of experience in webinars. In this way, it was organizationally possible to offer students from 5 federal states the opportunity to participate in the 4-month student internship at the same time as attending the upper secondary school.

The summer camp was both the highlight and conclusion of the student internship. The three-day program was mainly designed and accompanied by dual students from higher semesters of DB Netz AG. The commitment of Mr. Oliver Krause (matriculation 2020), who was always at the students' side in the webinars, during the excursions and also at the summer camp and was available to answer any questions and problems, deserves special mention.

Deciding on a particular career field has a major impact. It is therefore important to accompany this individual decision-making process over a longer period of time with an open mind and to create as many opportunities as possible for students to try things out and network with like-minded people.

For the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science is delighted that 7 participants in the summer camp will be enrolling on the dual degree course in Automation and Mechatronics in the coming winter semester 23/24. Parallel to their studies, they will complete vocational training as electronics technicians at DB Netz AG.
