The electrical engineering department once again successfully took part in Historik Mobil this year by opening the Zittau Süd training station.
While the 18th HISTORIK MOBIL, which took place from August 2 to 4 in the Zittau Mountains, was still undergoing intensive discussions at the electronic signal box (ESTW), the doors to the historic mechanical signal box at Zittau Süd station were already wide open.
Mr. Torsten Ratke, owner of the company BCG Office Consult, has given the university the use of an ESTW for training purposes and was impressed that it was fully operational at its new location within six months.
Mr. Hornung, a research assistant, successfully set up and made the ESTW operational with a team of students during the past semester. This was an important step towards expanding the extensive laboratory base in the field of railroad control and safety technology.
The ESTW is now not only available for student internships, but is also used for public relations work during Historik Mobil: After interested parties were shown the functionality of the mechanical interlocking, demonstrations were also given by the electronic interlocking to make the further development of the technology tangible.
