The Department of High Voltage Engineering invited academic staff and professors to St. Marienthal to exchange ideas.
The 24th colloquium on high-voltage and systems engineering took place from July 14 to 16, 2016. This year's host and organizer was the Department of High Voltage Engineering under the direction of Prof. Stefan Kornhuber of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences - Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
40 research assistants and their professors came together at the St. Marienthal International Meeting Center for a professional exchange with their hosts. In the four scientific sessions, the participants presented and discussed current topics and challenges of the energy transition on the status and future developments of research in the field of materials, high-voltage direct current transmission, switchgear technology and other components of electrical power engineering.
The Department of High Voltage Engineering at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences presented two scientific papers in the field of long-term stability of nano- and microstructured polymer surfaces (Dipl.-Ing. Heike Herzig) and approaches to evaluating the external layer flashover voltage of glass cap insulators with a defined non-uniform silicone coating (Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Stefan Kühnel).
In addition to the many interesting presentations followed by lively discussions and an exchange of experiences, the program also included a tour of the laboratory with a visit to the high-voltage hall and other laboratories of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Zittau university site. There were also excursions to Bogatynia (PL) to Polskie Pomidory and Lake Berzdorf. On the one hand, the technical facilities of the impressive tomato plantation (10.2 hectares under glass) and its technical cooperation with the Turow power plant (the adjacent power plant supplies the required electricity and heat) could be visited and, on the other hand, the difficulties of recultivation after opencast lignite mining at Lake Berzdorf could be understood during a very informative presentation by the Lausitzer und Mitteldeutsche Bergbau-Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH.
The colloquium was initiated in 1993 by Prof. Dr. Ing.Ing. König (TU Darmstadt) in 1993 to give scientific staff and doctoral students the opportunity for scientific and personal exchange in various areas of electrical power engineering. Since its inception, it has been held once a year at one of the five participating universities or
universities:
A continuation of this colloquium, which has become a tradition, is planned for its 25th edition next year as an anniversary event at the TU Ilmenau. The Department of High Voltage Engineering at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences will continue the long-standing tradition of scientific exchange and contribute with its recognized research focus in the field of high voltage and systems engineering.
