Review

The first symposium on polymeric insulating materials and their interfaces took place from 17-18 May 2018 at the Zittau / Görlitz University of Applied Sciences under the scientific direction of Prof. Dr.techn. Stefan Kornhuber. The aim of this conference is to create an interdisciplinary platform between materials technology, chemistry and electrical engineering to discuss different ideas and experiences in the development of materials and insulation systems. The first symposium focused on the topic of DC stress behavior, aging, possibilities of polymeric insulating materials and their interfaces:

-         DC - Stress on the solid material

-         DC - Stress on interfaces

-         Application of fillers

The symposium on polymer insulating materials was aimed at manufacturers, users, consulting companies and institutions. The focus was on DC voltage, whether in relation to transmission grids or the changes in medium-voltage and low-voltage distribution grids or in relation to electromobility. This symposium discussed the behavior of polymeric insulating materials, their interfaces and the possibility of adapting their properties with fillers.

The symposium provides a platform for the presentation and discussion of current issues from industry and research. The presentations and poster contributions served as impulses for the discussion of current and future challenges and solutions and provided the opportunity to exchange experiences in an open atmosphere.

The event was attended by 70 participants from Austria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Germany, and 16 presentations and 8 posters were presented for discussion. Before the joint dinner, the participants were able to learn about the historical background of the town of Zittau on a tour organized by local guides.
