The colloquium of the Department of High Voltage Engineering/Materials of Electrical Engineering at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science took place on 4 May 2015 to mark the completion of the construction work on the ZV building (High Voltage Engineering and University Computer Center) and the appointment of Dr.techn. Stefan Kornhuber. More than 40 national & international experts in high-voltage engineering accepted the department's invitation to Zittau.
At the opening, Prof. Dr. techn. Stefan Kornhuber thanked the university management and the Saxon State Real Estate and Construction Management for the good cooperation and the implementation of the construction measures as well as the industry for the good cooperation in the past and for the trust already placed in the future. Dean Prof. Dr.-Ing. Haim conveyed the Rector's best wishes and, in his opening address, outlined the successful appointment procedure for the successor to Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bärsch, thanking all those involved and the university management. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bärsch thanked the industry for the many years of cooperation and for the rapid implementation of the appointment procedure. In four interesting presentations on current topics (e.g. energy transition and HVDC corridors), a broad overview and many suggestions for discussions were presented. The following papers were presented and discussed at this colloquium.
Prof. Dr. sc.techn. Dr. h.c. Lemke presented in his lecture "PD diagnosis on power cables" the importance but also the limits of PD diagnosis on power cables and reflected the results of the theoretical considerations with his practical experience. Dr. Pihera, University of West Bohemia - Pilsen, presented the performance of the newly founded Regional Innovation Center for Electrical Engineering (RICE), which, in addition to high-performance test fields for storage technologies and drive applications, also focuses on research in electronics (e.g. "wearable electronics"). In the second part of the presentation, Dr. habil. Schmuck, Pfisterer Sefag AG - Malters, Switzerland, presented a contribution as an insulator manufacturer for the new transmission lines in Europe, giving an outlook on compact high-voltage overhead lines with practical examples. In the concluding lecture by Dr. Lambrecht, Wacker Chemie AG - Burghausen, new applications and production possibilities in the field of silicones such as highly filled silicone gels or UV-activated crosslinking were presented.
During tours of the laboratories, the guests were able to see for themselves the capabilities of the High Voltage Technology/Materials in Electrical Engineering department and explore questions from the presentations in greater depth. The event concluded with a pleasant evening in the high-voltage hall.
