High-voltage technicians exchange ideas

The HSZG presented research results in four papers at the VDE / ETG symposium "High Voltage Technology".

The "High Voltage Technology" conference, organized by the German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (ETG), took place in Berlin from November 14 - 16, 2016. This year's conference combined the previous ETG conferences "Diagnostics of electrical equipment", "Interfaces in electrical insulation systems" and "Insulation systems under DC and mixed field stress" into one event. Over 290 experts from the field of high-voltage technology, including manufacturers and operators of high-voltage systems, employees and professors from colleges and universities as well as employees from testing and research institutes, took the opportunity to exchange information on new scientific findings and discuss them in lively discussions.

Current research results from the fields of high-voltage technology equipment, materials/insulation systems, high-voltage direct current transmission and much more were presented in over 130 lectures and posters.

The University of Applied Sciences Zittau/Görlitz was represented by the Department of High Voltage Technology / Materials / Theoretical Electrical Engineering headed by Prof. Dr. techn. S. Kornhuber and the Department of Energy Systems headed by Prof. Dr.-Ing. U. Schmidt. Current research results were presented on the "Short and long-term insulating capacity of polymeric solid insulations with macroscopic longitudinal interfaces", on the "Evaluation of the external layer flashover voltage of glass cap insulators with defined non-uniform silicone coating", "Discharge behavior of long air spark gaps at lightning voltage" and "From atmospheric correction to height correction for air spark gaps - backgrounds, correlations and new approaches".

Through the active participation and successful acceptance of the contributions to this conference, the Department of High Voltage Engineering once again demonstrated the high national and international status of research activities in the field of interfaces of electrical insulation systems at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, which is also made possible by the many years of continuous cooperation with research partners from industry.
