Actively shaping progress in the energy sector

Prof. Dr. techn. Stefan Kornhuber has been appointed as the German representative to the Study Committee D1 of CIGRE.

Prof. Dr. techn. Stefan Kornhuber was appointed to the CIGRE Study Committee D1 as the German representative at the CIGRE Session 2024 and now provides a direct link to the German mirror committee DAK D1, which he also chairs.

At this year's CIGRE session in Paris (25.8-30.8.2024), Prof. Dr. techn. Stefan Kornhuber was appointed as the German representative to the Study Committee (SC) D1. The term of office is from 2024 to 2026. The main tasks are to actively shape the connection to the national mirror committee DAK D1 and to support the colleagues in the national committee with regard to the activities of SC D1. At the same time, suggestions for topics for new working groups can also be submitted via this connection. Another area is the collaboration with the global representatives to specifically include future topics in the SC's work program and to help shape the content of the sessions and colloquia. At the same time, Stefan Kornhuber's activities in IEC TC 112 and the IEEE DEIS will result in synergies, which he will also contribute to SC D1 in the "Solid Insulation Materials" Advisory Group in the future.

About the D1 study committee

The remit of Study Committee D1 covers new and existing materials for electrical engineering, diagnostic techniques and associated knowledge rules, as well as emerging testing techniques that can be expected to have a significant impact on energy systems in the medium to long term. As a horizontal study committee, SC D1 aims to support the other CIGRE study committees and also external partners such as IEC. The mission of SC D1 is to facilitate and promote the advancement of technology and the international exchange of information and knowledge. This is achieved by synthesizing state of the art practices and developing recommendations as well as identifying, investigating and monitoring the use of new or novel materials, test methods and general concepts for diagnostics.

Test and measurement procedures will be developed based on knowledge of the performance of materials and electrical insulation systems (EIS) under electrical, thermal, mechanical, chemical and environmental stresses. These can then be used to develop new diagnostic and analysis methods for the asset management of electrical equipment to support the work of equipment, subsystem and system committees.
